Moonridge is a cozy area in Big Bear Lake east of the Village. It's known for its rustic cabins, hilly roads and stunning mountain views. Be sure to check out the shops and cafes along Moonridge Road before or after your visit.
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo was started as a place to care for animals who were injured from a wildfire in the 1950s in Big Bear Lake. After realizing that some of the animals could not be released back into the wild, it became known as the Moonridge Animal Park.
Today, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is owned and operated by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District and has continued to focus on the rehabilitation and care of injured or orphaned native wildlife and providing a sanctuary for animals that cannot be released back into the wild.
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is open year round, weather permitting. Winter weather can also be a fun experience at the Zoo since most of the animals have access to the outdoors.

There are usually discounts for children and seniors, and you can often purchase tickets online for quicker entry. During specific times of the year, the zoo offers special twilight tours where you can see nocturnal animals come alive.
